CSCA Chairman’s Message

Lisa Kilcourse                    Seth Korn

Hello and happy still summer! We are excited for what we anticipate to be a school year rich with potential, connection, and positive impact as we serve as your Co-Chairs of the Connecticut School Counselor Association Executive Board.

Lisa Kilcourse brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Chair, Director, VP of Fairfield County, and PR Chair. Lisa is currently an elementary school counselor in Newtown, CT. Formerly Lisa worked in Weston Public Schools and is currently adjunct Professor at Western Connecticut State University. She also recently became a Certified Yoga Teacher.

Seth Korn joins as Co-Chair with a strong background as Director, VP of Hartford County, and Chair of Government Relations (GRAC). Seth is currently the Director of School Counseling & Student Testing for Newington Public Schools.  Formerly Seth worked in Canton Public Schools as a high school counselor.

Both of us have also been actively involved in planning the annual CSCA conference, stay tuned for what’s ahead this year! We’d like to thank Trinity College for hosting us last school year. In reflection on last year we are proud to say we helped to raise over $1,200 for the American Foudation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness Walk. We saw tremendous engagement during National School Counseling Week and the 2025 Awards Gala was a truly memorable and inspiring celebration.

The Executive Board has been working diligently to make this year our most successful yet. We’re grateful for the support of our Executive Director, Michelle Boss; our Treasurer, Kiley Flynn; our Secretary, Sarah Magilnick; and our dedicated Board of Directors: Todd Dyer, Curtis Darragh IV, and Kelly Norris. We’ll be training and onboarding our Governing Board in our Leadership Development Institute (LDI) in September. Our Governing Board will be hosting events both in person and virtually to help support your work professionally and personally. We’ve refreshed our website and introduced a new domain, check it out: ctschoolcounselor.com

In addition to these updates we have been rolling out our CSCA CT College Consortium. The CSCA CT College Consortium is a program that will streamline the college visit process for member schools.  Each school that is part of the Consortium hosts a college fair at their school in the fall.  CSCA is working closely with the Consortium to support member school efforts to provide direct access for students to higher education representatives.  Currently the Consortium conducts college fairs at member schools in the Greater Hartford area but is working to add college fairs at schools in other areas of the state.

We are proud of our members and the dedication you show each day to ensure students succeed and have their needs met. Many of you have asked about ways to get more involved. Joining a committee is a fantastic opportunity to tailor your experience, support fellow school counselors, and connect with colleagues from across the state.  If you’re interested in joining a committee or simply want to learn more, check out the list of current CSCA committeesLINKED HERE.

As we continue to offer meaningful professional development and foster valuable connections across the state, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know how we can support you. Both of us regularly monitor cscachairman@gmail.com.
